Community Arts Liaison: Arts & Humanities Council Community Arts Liaison: Arts & Humanities Council

Skyline PTSA Community Arts Liaison serves on the PTSA Board and on the Arts & Humanities Council.

Arts & Humanities Council

In talking with people over the past year about the goals and concerns of the Arts & Humanities Council, some have commented that they really didn’t have anyone involved in the arts at Skyline.  They didn’t have a student who sang or played an instrument, or performed in a dance or drama production, so they weren’t really part of the artistic community at Skyline.  WRONG!!!!

If your student has EVER taken pottery, graphics, multi-media, photography, drawing, commercial art, wood working, sculpture, or jewelry -- they have been affected by the Arts & Humanities Council projects.

If your student has ever participated in (or observed & enjoyed!) the Poetry Slam, submitted creative writing to the Satorian or participated in Speech & Debate, they have been affected by Arts & Humanities Council projects.

If you or your student has ever sat in the Skyline auditorium for an assembly or performance, YOU have been affected by Arts & Humanities Council projects.

Over the past two years the Council has been able to facilitate and/or help fund:  Nine college scholarships for Skyline students, a new stage curtain for the auditorium, new seats for the auditorium, a dance floor overlay for the stage, a digital camera for the art department, repair of pianos and other musical instruments, defraying of the cost of printing the Satorian literary magazine, the printing of performance programs as a student fundraiser to offset school participation fees, and are looking toward many needed resources that may be beyond the normal budget capabilities of the school.

This year we will begin sponsoring a “Save the Arts/Share the Talent” lecture series that is open to all students.  This series will feature a variety of accomplished professionals such as authors, filmmakers, animators, performers, directors, musicians, choreographers, and television experts in a workshop-seminar setting at Skyline.

In addition to our ongoing Lega-Seat campaign (for a donation to the Arts & Humanities, a donor’s name appears on a plaque outside the auditorium and in all the performance programs), our annual fundraising push occurs in October with the “Save the Arts/Share the Music” event & concert.

If you would like more information to become more involved in the Arts & Humanities Council or would like to offer resources or a donation, please contact us through the Skyline main office or call me!
